Studio PolicyPlease take a moment to read through the following studio policies so that you know what to expect and so that your lesson experience can be as good as possible. These policies apply to both violin and piano students. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me!
We will discuss your payment based on number of students in your family and any additional fees for travel before you begin lessons. From September to May, that month's payment is due the first lesson of every month. During the summer (June, July, and August) payment is only required on a week-to-week basis, although you may continue to pay by the month if you would like to. I accept cash or checks.
If you need to cancel your lesson for any reason, please contact me at least 24 hours before the scheduled lesson time. Emergencies and short notice circumstances such as illness are understandable, but please contact me as soon as know you will not be able to have the lesson. Payment will not be required for lessons cancelled with at least 24 hours’ notice, and the lesson may be able to be rescheduled. However, you may only have (at most) three unpaid cancellations per year.
If I need to cancel a lesson, I will contact you at least 24 hours in advance except under circumstances such as illness, in which case I will contact you as soon as possible. Payment will not be required if I cancel the lesson.
Your lesson time has been reserved especially for you so that I can give you my full attention. I will set aside our agreed upon lesson time for you, and expect you to do the same. Because of my personal schedule and the schedules of my other students, I will not usually be able to accommodate your lesson outside the regular scheduled time. If you find that your lesson time does not work for you, please let me know and we will reschedule.
Please bring a notebook, your instrument (once you have one) and accessories, and any music books that have been requested to each lesson. Hands should be clean and fingernails trimmed before coming to your lesson.
Practice at home is a vital part of your progress and learning. In order for the lessons to be the most effective, students are expected to practice at least five days a week and should bring each week’s lesson assignments to the next lesson properly prepared.
If the student is under 15 years of age, an adult (preferably a parent) must accompany them to the lesson. The parent/adult will be expected to observe the lesson and help the child with practice at home. The level of parental/adult involvement will usually go down as the child gets older and more advanced, but we will discuss the specific needs of the student.
No holiday breaks are pre-scheduled; I will schedule those on a student-to-student basis depending on your particular schedules and needs.
Students are encouraged to continue regular lessons through the summer. However, if your summer schedule does not allow for continued weekly lessons, you are only required to have a total of three lessons during the summer to guarantee a time slot in my schedule for the coming year. There may be a slot available, but it is not guaranteed if you do not have at least three lessons during the summer.
Group lessons will be scheduled from time to time (usually about once a month) depending on teacher and student availability. Performances of various kinds will also be scheduled throughout the year. Student attendance is expected for both as part of the musical experience. The cost is already covered in your lesson tuition; however space rental and accompanist fees may be due.
The student (or their parents) will be responsible for purchasing the instrument, any needed accessories, and any books, CDs, etc. that are needed for lessons after discussing it with me. Some items will be required, some are optional. I will help you understand which items that we discuss fall into each category. This purchase policy applies at the beginning of lessons as well as any time anything new is needed.
Photos and Videos
I reserve the right to use any photos or videos that I take or authorize during lessons, group classes, recitals, or any other music events that my studio holds. However, I will never release the student's names with these photos. If you would prefer that I not use any photos of you, please ask for a photo opt-out form.
These policies may be updated at any time. You will be notified of any changes and you may either request an updated hard copy or can view the changes online here.
